Google Loves Me, Yes It Do

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

Posted by: Chester

My name is Chester and I am a googleholic. It has been 45 minutes since my last Google.

It all began innocently enough some years ago with simple searches about things I had a curiousity about - Early aviation experiments, shoreline erosion and mummification were all subjects that google willingly shared information on. I would stand by the water cooler for hours chatting with co-workers about all manner of interesting tidbits I found with Google. Folks would come and go, but I always had something new to talk about; always that sweet nugget of information that nobody else knew of. I spent many harmless hours expanding my information base. I say information base because it is not knowledge I have gathered from Google, but merely info. Happy, harmless fun searching for answers to my curiousity about things.

Is Google Evil? - Alarmism or Intelligence?

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

Posted by: Fester

Well, given the sensitivity of the topic we write about here, I guess we are bound to get it from all sides.

When I read well established bloggers talking about ‘Google Alarmism’, I can’t help but think of what thier motive must be, or that they must just downright thoughtless about ‘the bigger picture’ (great article).
And I’m not just picking on Google here - I’m raising a bigger question…

Stop It! You’re Scaring My Wife

Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

Posted by: Chester

I don’t know much about evil, save for my wife’s uncle the Baptist minister, but if you ask me Google seems ok. I use it all the time for all sorts of really cool things and so does my wife and she certainly does not want to know bad news about Google being an evil Big Brother type of thing. She thinks I’m crazy for even considering such notions about such a charming and helpful online pal like Google …

Though it is odd how much time, energy and technology Google puts into ‘watching’ us surf and tracking our every online move. I mean why does Google need that info?

Does it help me directly find cheap+hotel+San Jose? No.

Does this behaviour help Google create a better user experience? Perhaps.

Yeah, that’s right! I said it - “Peeping in on your finances”.

Does the new Google Currency Converter actually peer into your financial ongoings?

Probably not - yet…

Google Toolbar for Firefox - More Evil?

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Posted by: Fester

It was announced last week that Google was releasing thier toolbar for Firefox.

While there is much praise over the many features the new toolbar offers, I can’t help but feel sorry for those people who have been surfing using Firefox - relatively unwatched by Big G - and now that they’re installing the toolbar, they’re under Big Bother’s all-seeing eye.

Ooops! Not only Google pulls (possible) copyright infringements…

Friday, July 8th, 2005

Posted by: Fester

There’s been a bit of hub-ub about Google infringing on copyrights lately, and you know I’ll be offering something about it soon

Well, in an effort to bring you some top quality original content (here’s a great forum post by a bunch of i-marketing gurus, about why affiliate sites need original content) it seems WE - the Untouchables - have gone and done it even worse…

Google’s Personalized Home Page - Better Late Than Never - or is it?

Thursday, July 7th, 2005

Well, as you can see from the excerpts from this eweek.com article below, the powers that be at Google insist that they’re doing something “new” with thier recent offering of a personalized Google home page. This type of rhetoric from the power pawns makes me cringe with disgust, like when you catch a girlfriend who’s cheated - who lies to you to ’save you the pain’. I HATE when that happens.

Adding arms to the Google vs. MSN vs. Yahoo battle, it seems that Google’s ‘new’ thing is just a few years late. What they’ve come up with in thier ‘released earlier than anticipated’ version is just lame. In fact, it made me go get a MyYahoo home page - really (I kinda like this RSS aggregator thing!). Unless Google can come up with a way to add some really CRAZY new features, there’ll be nothing new my friends - except for the order of the words in which they feed you the marketing crap that the machine that is Google was created to mine your personal websurfing habits - and thus personality - so they can pass the information onto the government to try to control your brain so they can oppress you into doing what they want and believing what they want you to believe. - but that’s just my opinion.

Here’s the excerpts:

Google vs. MSN vs. Yahoo!

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

Let the war begin!! …or continue anyway…

“Them with the deepest pockets - usually wins, like, 90% of the time anyway…” - Fester

This will be a battle of the war chests, folks, with the deepest pockets pulling together the best people to stay one step ahead of - or crush - the competition…

Will MSN and Yahoo wise up? Could they leverage thier marketing buck by barking to the public - “Hey - OUR results are actually BETTER than thiers!”… and then actually DO SO, by offering free immediate inclusion (within days vs. sandbox) coupled with daily updates of thier databases to provide ‘better’ results than Google?

Why You MUST Put Keywords in Your Domain

Monday, July 4th, 2005

Authored by: Fester

If you are just new to the world of SEO ( search engine optimization - defined), or you are a seasoned vet - you’ve most certainly heard of the ‘myth’ of putting keywords in your domain. All experts will tell you it’s bunk… ‘doesn’t make a difference’ you’ll hear repeated again and again…

But, after pondering this issue, I will have to disagree with this hypothesis. (No, this is not a FACT, it’s a hypothesis… because - as the experts will tell you - no-one really knows, except the search ‘engineers’ who write the algorithms.) Here’s my opinion:
