Google vs. MSN vs. Yahoo!

Let the war begin!! …or continue anyway…

“Them with the deepest pockets - usually wins, like, 90% of the time anyway…” - Fester

This will be a battle of the war chests, folks, with the deepest pockets pulling together the best people to stay one step ahead of - or crush - the competition…

Will MSN and Yahoo wise up? Could they leverage thier marketing buck by barking to the public - “Hey - OUR results are actually BETTER than thiers!”… and then actually DO SO, by offering free immediate inclusion (within days vs. sandbox) coupled with daily updates of thier databases to provide ‘better’ results than Google?

An ‘x’ month ‘hold’ (said sandbox effect) is typically placed on new sites indexed by Google so that they don’t show up in the results for months. That means you’re missing out on some very valuable information my freind… and new sites LIKE THIS ONE as well as new portals, comparison sites, blogs and others - means that new and current content is slipping you by if you use Google to search the web.

It’s funny to see what people who are smarter than me say about this, and there are many, many, many, many other articles written about this subject, too.

Only time will tell who will prevail in this battle…

But why can’t they just co-operate…? - Like how they all display the same stock info?

…well, that’s another post - coming soon.

Which brings us to our final matter: Is Google Evil?
Well, in this case, it all depends on your definition of evil, but if putting a rediculously long hold on valuable content is a good thing, - well, then that seems to me a little - rediculous, maybe not evil.

Some day I’ll get around to posting an article on why hiring human editors is a much better and quicker way than the sandbox to screen spam.

But, that’s yet another post…

You should check out the guy from Yahoo! bashing the Google Maps API linked from a posting I did here:

That blog - Google Maps Mania might be a nice addition to your “Google blogs” as well..

    Cheers,
