Google Toolbar for Firefox - More Evil?

July 11th, 2005

Posted by: Fester

It was announced last week that Google was releasing thier toolbar for Firefox.

While there is much praise over the many features the new toolbar offers, I can’t help but feel sorry for those people who have been surfing using Firefox - relatively unwatched by Big G - and now that they’re installing the toolbar, they’re under Big Bother’s all-seeing eye.

OF COURSE Google was going to release a toolbar for Firefox, they use the toolbar to track surfing habits! Anything that they can do to see - and database - what you’re doing, they’ll do it. This is the age where information is money, and the most valuable information is WHAT YOU DO.
If they know what you do, they know how to market to/brainwash you to buy or do whatever they say.

Who is ‘they’? Well, if you read the Google toolbar privacy policy or the standard Google privacy policy, you’ll see they gather as much information as they possibly can, and quite possibly the ONLY people Google will ever release your surfing history to - is the government - if deemed so neccessary…

Do you want the government knowing all of your surfing habits? … I don’t.

Here’s a little more about what they know - and although I didn’t mean to scare his wife, Chester certainly is becoming convinced!!!

There’ll be more to come on this one….

Now you tell me. I just installed Firefox a few weeks ago thinking that hey, I’m a clever guy and I can outsmart Google, Microsoft and all those other digital monopolists out there by avoiding their products and supporting an alternate digital universe by going with browsers like Firefox… but nooooo, Google has to co-opt these guys too!! I want my fairplay, democratic, fun for all, with no eyeballs watching internet back (if it was ever here to begin with)!!!
